FRAN SLATER COUNSELLING

Are any of these familiar?

If any of this resonates, you’re in the right place.

You’re going through something difficult and don’t quite know how to make sense of it
You feel anxious, low, or stuck and you’re not sure why
You’re hard on yourself, and that inner critic never seems to quieten down
Something from your past is affecting how you feel today
You just want to feel like yourself again

That inner critic that never switches off

You’d never speak to a friend the way you speak to yourself. You know that logically, but knowing it doesn’t make it stop. Counselling for low self-esteem and self-criticism can help you understand where that voice came from, and gently loosen its grip on how you see yourself.

Feeling stuck or lost without knowing why?

Sometimes there’s no obvious reason to feel the way you do, and that makes it harder, not easier. You don’t need a crisis to deserve support. If something just doesn’t feel right, that’s enough. Talking therapy can help you make sense of what’s going on and find a way forward.

When the past won’t stay in the past

Old experiences have a way of showing up in the present, in our relationships, our reactions, our sense of who we are. Counselling for anxiety, low mood, and the lasting effects of difficult experiences can help you make sense of those connections and begin to move forward more freely.

Just wanting to feel like yourself again

You don’t have to know exactly what’s wrong or have the right words for it. Whether you’re looking for in-person counselling in Deeping St James or Nottingham, or online counselling from anywhere in the UK, you just have to be willing to show up. I’ll help with the rest.

Hi I’m Fran – NCPS-accredited person-centred counsellor with over 5 years of experience

I came to counselling through my own experience of it. Life had become difficult in ways I couldn’t quite explain, and working with an experienced counsellor changed everything for me. That’s why I do this work. I know what it feels like to sit in that chair.

I’m a qualified, NCPS-accredited person-centred counsellor with over 5 years of experience providing private counselling for adults.

Person-centred means exactly what it sounds like: you are the expert on your own life. My role is to walk alongside you, not to tell you what to do or how to feel.

I have a dedicated private practice in Deeping St James and Nottingham, and I work with adults online across the UK. I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you are free to be completely, honestly yourself.

What clients say

“More confident and less anxious”

Fran supported me through significant life changes and helped me feel more confident in myself and less anxious. I now feel more equipped to handle challenging situations that I wouldn’t have previously managed, and I understand myself and my feelings so much better.

Client, 9 months of counselling

“My life is so much better now”

Fran was immediately a trusting and friendly face that allowed me to open up and talk. My life is so much better now and I’m managing to deal with the ups and downs so much better. She was fantastic at helping me understand my feelings and I will always feel grateful for my experience of counselling with Fran. I can now recommend counselling to my friends who are struggling, because I can assure them it works.

Client

“I speak to myself so much more kindly”

I came to counselling not knowing what to expect, dealing with a huge amount of anxiety that felt overwhelming. Through my sessions with Fran I now understand my feelings and my anxiety has greatly reduced. My relationship with myself and with others has changed so much. I am now able to speak to myself so much more kindly than I did before. Fran supported me every step of the way and I never felt pressured or judged.

Thank you Fran, I appreciate it more than you can know.

Common questions

Person-centred counselling is an approach that puts you at the heart of the process. Rather than following a fixed programme or telling you what to do, a person-centred counsellor believes that you are the expert on your own life. My role is to create a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely, at your own pace, and find your own way forward.

There’s no clear dividing line, and that’s okay. Talking to someone you trust is always valuable. But if you find yourself going over the same ground without things shifting, feeling like a burden to the people around you, or simply wanting a space that’s entirely yours, counselling might be exactly what you’re looking for. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. If something doesn’t feel right, that’s enough.

I aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours. From there, we can arrange a free initial telephone consultation and discuss availability for sessions.

Please note that I am not a crisis service and am unable to provide crisis support.
